For the past 20 years I have had many picture sent to me by people all around the world claiming they have taken a picture of a ghost. At first glance it looks like the 100s of other strange picture across the internet.Its only when you start to do your job by not taking what these people have said to you with regards to the picture as FACT!. So its only once you start looking at the pictures up close you then see that the picture is NOT WHAT IT SEEMED TO BE.
With every new PC or laptop or even I-phone have some great picture edit kits that if you know what your doing you then an make up a real good fake picture in around 30 mins. Adobe Photoshop has gievn the world some out standing pictures and its this reason alone now I find it hard to trust anything from anyone unless there are other fact you can take into account E.g: Witness statements, Video Footage " Even though this can also be faked" so seeing this with your own eyes or the eyes of your team or at very least people you trust seems to be the only real way of trusting the evidence right front of you.
Why people feel they must hoax or fake pictures or video to get media attention is above me but they do and they always will and as time goes by these editing kits for phones, PC and laptops will get better with age and so do the fake pictures!. These days I've still get sent some out standing pictures that I am finding it very hard to spot a fakes that have been carried out . If your not sure and if its to good to be true' then it has to be FAKE right? Sadly though this is not always the case as every now and then we get that one in million picture or move that stands out from all the rest of the pictures and has that WOW affect.
When people fake or hoax there pictures makes my work and others around the world much harder but we have to work much harder to set out the science facts from the science fiction.
